-फादर कपिल देव (ग्वालियर धर्मप्रान्त)Dear brothers and sisters, today we celebrate the Feast of St. Andrew, Apostle. The Gospel tells us that Jesus was walking beside the Sea of Galilee when He saw Simon Peter and Andrew casting their nets into the sea. Jesus called them to follow Him, and immediately they left their nets and followed Him. Their response was simple but courageous. They did not know everything about what the future would bring, but they trusted the One who was calling them. This is the heart of every Christian vocation. Jesus continues to call people today. He calls us in the middle of our ordinary lives, through our families, work, studies, relationships and responsibilities. Sometimes we think that God can call only people who are perfect, talented or specially prepared. But Peter and Andrew were ordinary fishermen. Jesus called them and gradually transformed them into apostles. St. Andrew also became someone who brought others to Jesus. His vocation was not only about his own relationship with Christ; he became a bridge through which others could encounter the Lord. We too are called not only to follow Jesus for ourselves but also to bring others closer to Him. A kind word, a prayer, a good example or an invitation to return to the Church can become a means of evangelization. Today, let us listen again to the voice of Jesus. Whatever our situation may be, let us respond with generosity: “Lord, I am ready. Use my life for Your mission.”

मरिया (ग्वालियर धर्मप्रान्त)Today, the Mother Church celebrates the feast of the Apostle Saint Andrew. We know that Saint Andrew was the brother of the great apostle Saint Peter, and both were fishermen by trade. In today’s Gospel, we read about the calling of these two brothers, as well as the calling of James and John, the sons of Zebedee. Were these fishermen not satisfied with their work? They were busy with their occupation and content with it; otherwise, they would have looked for something else. But when Jesus called them, they not only left their work behind but also left their families and relatives to follow Him. One would do this only if they believed that the new task was more valuable and important than the old one. We, too, remain engaged in our work, but can we take a moment from our daily tasks to give something for the Lord? Can we offer a part of our time and life to bear witness to the Gospel?

-फादर अल्फ्रेड डिसूजा (भोपाल महाधर्मप्रांत)Jesus called ordinary fishermen to help Him to spread the gospel, ordinary folks just like you and me. What is striking in the gospel reading is their immediate response to the call of Jesus. When Jesus called Peter and Andrew they immediately left their nets and they both followed Jesus. The same occurrence happened when Jesus called the brothers Zebedee and John. Upon hearing the call of Jesus they left their boat and their father to immediately become a follower. The four of them were ordinary fishermen, they were expert with their craft but they have no formal education about the faith. This simply means that a formal education about the faith is not a requirement to become an effective follower. What is important is the desire and willingness to respond to Jesus. Jesus is always calling us to follow Him every second, every minute and hour that pass by. Let us be sensitive to this call of Jesus.

Today we are celebrating the feast of St. Andrew, one among the twelve apostles who was being chosen by Lord Jesus to be with him and to be send out in to the world to proclaim the gospel; a privilege which many of us long for: to be with him, to experience him and to do his will.
Jesus came in this world to save us and he wants each one of us to be saved. He chose twelve disciples in order to carry forward his mission of saving the souls. After the death, Resurrection and Ascension of Lord Jesus the apostles carried forward his mission and even now also there are Lord’s followers who carry forward in the mission of saving souls.
How one can be saved? St. Paul says in today’s first reading, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ But simply calling is not enough one has to call with faith and one can have faith only after hearing about him and one can hear only if someone proclaims and one cannot proclaim unless he is being sent. In this large world there are very few chosen one who are being called to send. As Jesus says in Mt 9:37-38, “The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few, therefore ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest;” We need to always pray to the Lord to choose the people from the world to be sent out like St. Andrew.
On the feast of St. Andrew we read the call of Andrew. St. Andrew a simple fisherman left everything to follow Jesus. Jesus’ call is very strange because he always calls the simple and humble person to carry forward his mission. Of which St. Paul tells about the call in his 1 Cor 1:27-29, “But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong; God chose what is low and despised in the world, things that are not, to reduce to nothing things that are, so that no one might boast in the presence of God.”
Let’s pray that many may respond to God’s call as St. Andrew responded so that they may become the worthy instrument in God’s hand to save the souls. Amen!
