📕पहला पाठ
प्रवक्ता – ग्रन्थ 48:1-4,9-11
एलियस फिर आयेंगे।
तब एलियस अग्नि की तरह प्रकट हुआ। उसकी वाणी धधकती मशाल के सदृश थी। उसने उनके देश में अकाल भेजा और अपने धर्मोत्साह में उनकी संख्या घटा दी। उसने प्रभु के वचन से आकाश के द्वार बन्द किये और तीन बार आकाश से अग्नि गिरायी। हे एलियस ! आप अपने चमत्कारों के कारण कितने महान् थे ! आपके सदृश होने का दावा कौन कर सकता है ! आप अग्नि की आँधी में, अग्निमय अश्वों के रथ में आरोहित कर लिये गये। आपके विषय में लिखा है कि आप निर्धारित समय पर चेतावनी देने आयेंगे, जिससे ईश्वरीय प्रकोप भड़कने से पहले ही आप उसे शांत करें, पिता और पुत्र का मेल करायें और इस्राएल के वंशों का पुनरुद्धार करें। धन्य हैं वे, जिन्होंने आपके दर्शन किये, जो आपके प्रेम से सम्मानित हुए !
प्रभु की वाणी।
📖भजन - स्तोत्र 79:2-3,15-16,18-19
अनुवाक्य : हे ईश्वर ! हमें वापस बुला। हम पर दयादृष्टि कर और हमारा उद्धार हो जायेगा।
1. हे प्रभु ! तू इस्राएल का चरवाहा है, हमारी सुन। तू स्वर्गदूतों पर विराजमान है, अपना तेज दिखां। अपनी शक्ति को जगा और आ कर हमें बचाने की कृपा कर।
2. विश्वमंडल के प्रभु ! स्वर्ग से हम पर दयादृष्टि कर। तूने यह दाखलता लगायी है, आ कर उसकी रक्षा कर।
3. जिसे तूने चुन लिया है, जिसे तूने बढ़ने की शक्ति दी है, उसे अपने दाहिने हाथ से सँभाल। हम फिर कभी तुझे नहीं छोड़ेंगे; हमें बचाने की कृपा कर, जिससे हम तेरा गुणगान कर सकें।

अल्लेलूया ! प्रभु का मार्ग तैयार करो; उसके पथ सीधे कर दो। सब शरीरधारी ईश्वर के मुक्ति-विधान के दर्शन करेंगे। अल्लेलूया !
📙सुसमाचार
मत्ती के अनुसार पवित्र सुसमाचार 17:10-13
"एलियस आ चुका है और उन्होंने उसे नहीं पहचाना।"
पहाड़ से उतरते समय येसु के शिष्यों ने उनसे पूछा, "शास्त्री यह क्यों कहते हैं कि पहले एलियस को आना है?" येसु ने उत्तर दिया, ‘“एलियस को अवश्य आना है और सब कुछ ठीक कर देना है। परन्तु मैं तुम लोगों से कहता हूँ - एलियस आ चुका है। उन्होंने उसे नहीं पहचाना है और उसके साथ मनमाना व्यवहार किया है। उसी तरह मानव पुत्र भी उनके हाथों दुःख उठायेगा।" तब वे समझ गये कि येसु योहन बपतिस्ता के विषय में कह रहे हैं।

📚 मनन-चिंतन
अगर हम आज के समाज को जानने व उसकी प्रणाली को समझने का प्रयास करें तो हम यह पायेंगे की समाज में काफी त्रुटियाँ हैं जिनका सुधार शीघ्र ही होना चाहिए। पर समाजिक त्रुटियों की कालिख को दूर करने के लिए समाज को ऐसे व्यक्तित्व की तलाश है जो सत्य से उसका साक्षातकार करवाए जिससे समाज व्यवस्थित एवं शांतिपूर्ण रूप से चल सके। जहाँ कोई बुराई नहीं, बल्कि केवल सत्य ही विद्यमान हो। आज के पाठों द्वारा हम एक ऐसे व्यक्ति विशेष पर चिंतन कर रहे हैं जो प्रभु ईश्वर द्वारा भेजा गया था और जो सत्य की स्थापना में अपना महत्वपूर्ण योग्दान देता है नबी एलियस जो पुराने विधान में प्रभु-ईश्वर के शब्द द्वारा उसकी अनंत महिमा का साक्षय देता है,सत्य के साथ कंधे-से कंधा मिलाकर चलता है। सुसमाचार में भी हमने पढ़ा की प्रभु मेसु योहन बपतिस्ता को अप्रत्यक्ष रूप से एलियास घोषित करते हैं जो सत्य का प्रमाण देने आया था। संदेश स्पष्ट है और वह ये है कि जो सत्य को जानकर उसे स्थापित करने का प्रयास करता है वह इस भौतिक संसार द्वारा त्याग दिया जाता है पर जो उसमें धीर बना रहता है वो ईश्वर की महिमा का उत्तराधिकारी बन जाता है.

If we try to understand today’s society and its system, we will find many flaws that need to be corrected without delay. But in order to remove these faults, society looks for a person who can reveal the truth and guide it to live in order, peace, and harmony, where there is no evil but only truth. Through today’s readings, we reflect on such a special person who was sent by God and who played an important role in establishing the truth — the prophet Elijah. In the Old Testament, Elijah gave witness to God’s eternal glory and walked shoulder to shoulder with the truth. In the Gospel, we also read that Jesus indirectly identifies John the Baptist as the new Elijah, who came to bear witness to the truth. The message is clear: those who know the truth and try to establish it are often rejected by the world. But those who remain steadfast in the truth will surely share in the glory of God.

📚 मनन-चिंतन
आज के पाठ में, प्रभु योहन बप्तिस्ता की गवाही के बारे में बात करते हैं, जिन्होंने प्रभु येसु को ईश्वर का मेमना कहकर इंगित किया था। योहन की गवाही प्रभावशाली थी क्योंकि उसने सत्य की गवाही दी, और वही सत्य यह दर्शाता है कि प्रभु येसु कौन थे। इस आगमन में, हमें अपनी गवाही पर विचार करने के लिए आमंत्रित किया जाता है। क्या हमारा जीवन मसीह के सत्य की गवाही देता है? क्या हम अपने कार्यों, शब्दों और विश्वास के माध्यम से दुनिया को दिखाते हैं कि प्रभु येसु कौन हैं? यह आगमन हमारे लिए अपने जीवन के हर पहलू में मसीह के प्रति अपने विश्वास के प्रति अधिक विश्वासयोग्य गवाह बनने का समय होना चाहिए। जैसे योहन बप्तिस्ता ने साहसिक रूप से सत्य की घोषणा की, वैसे ही हमें भी अपने विश्वास को साहसपूर्वक जीने के लिए बुलाया गया है।

In today’s reading, Jesus speaks about the testimony of John the Baptist, who pointed to Jesus as the Lamb of God. John’s testimony was powerful because he bore witness to the truth, and this truth revealed who Jesus truly was. During Advent, we are invited to reflect on our own testimony. Do our lives bear witness to the truth of Christ? Are we showing the world who Jesus is through our actions, words, and attitudes? Let this Advent be a time when we can evaluate how we can be more faithful witnesses to Christ in all that we do. Just as John the Baptist boldly proclaimed the truth, we are called to boldly live out our faith.

एलिय्याह, भविष्यवक्ता, आज के पहले पाठ के साथ-साथ सुसमाचार में भी केंद्रीय पात्र है। एलिय्याह के शब्द “भट्ठी की तरह धधक रहे थे।“ क्या सशक्त छवि है! उसने धरती पर आग भी उतारी और कई अन्य आश्चर्यजनक कार्य भी किये। येसु के शिष्यों को यह भविष्यवाणी समझ में नहीं आयी। उन्होंने उससे पूछा कि क्या एलिय्याह भविष्य में पृथ्वी पर लौटेगा। येसु ने उनसे कहा कि हाँ, एलिय्याह वापस आएगा। हालाँकि, येसु यह कहते हैं कि एलिय्याह पहले ही पृथ्वी पर आ चुका था। हालाँकि, किसी ने उसे नहीं पहचाना। एलिय्याह को लोगों ने अस्वीकार कर दिया था। एलिय्याह के बारे में बात करते हुए, येसु अपनी मृत्यु की भविष्यवाणी कर रहे हैं। वह अपने शिष्यों को इस बात के लिए तैयार कर रहा है कि क्या आने वाला है। येसु उनसे कहते हैं, “मानव पुत्र दुःख उठाएगा।“ हालाँकि, शिष्यों का मानना है कि येसु योहन के बारे में बात कर रहे हैं। हमेशा की तरह, येसु के शिष्य समझ नहीं पाए। कई बार हम यह भी नहीं समझ पाते कि येसु हमसे क्या कह रहे हैं। कभी-कभी, हमारे लिए येसु की आवाज़ सुनना मुश्किल हो सकता है। हमारे जीवन में व्यस्तता और शोर हमें इस बात से बहरा बना सकता है कि येसु हमसे क्या कह रहे हैं। आज हम अपने कान, अपने दिमाग और अपने दिल खोल सकते हैं! क्या हम येसु की आवाज़ को ध्यान से सुन सकते हैं। येसु बोलेंगे. क्या हम सुनेंगे?

Elijah, the prophet, is the central character in today’s first reading as well as in the Gospel. The reading from Sirach also says that Elijah’s words “flamed like a furnace.” What a powerful image! He also brought down fire to the earth and did many other astonishing deeds. Jesus’ disciples did not understand this prophecy. They asked Him if Elijah would return to earth in the future. Jesus told them that yes, Elijah would return. However, Jesus continues by saying that Elijah already had come to the earth. However, no one recognized him. Elijah was rejected by the people. In speaking of Elijah, Jesus is predicting His own death. He is preparing his disciples for what will come. Jesus tells them “the Son of Man will suffer.” However, the disciples assume that Jesus is talking about John the Baptist. As usual, Jesus’ disciples did not understand. At times, we also do not understand what Jesus is saying to us. At times, it may be difficult for us to hear Jesus’ voice. The busyness and noise in our lives can make us deaf to what Jesus may be saying to us. Today may we open our ears, our minds and our hearts! May we listen attentively for Jesus’ voice. Jesus will speak. Will we listen?

नबी ऐलियस इस्राइल के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण नबियों में से एक थे। कभी-कभी लोग उनकी तुलना नबी मूसा से भी करते थे। ऐसा माना जाता था कि मसीह के आने से पहले नबी ऐलियस को भेजा जाएगा ताकि वे लोगों को तैयार करें कि वे मुक्तिदाता को स्वीकार करने के योग्य बनें। यह बात हम आज के पहले पाठ में भी देखते हैं, और लोगों को यह मौखिक रूप से पीढ़ी दर पीढ़ी बताया भी गया था। और इसलिए आज के सुसमाचार में शिष्य लोग नबी ऐलियस के आने के बारे में प्रभु येसु से पूछते हैं।
हम जानते हैं कि प्रभु येसु ने स्वयं इस ओर इंगित किया था कि योहन बपतिस्ता ही नबी ऐलियस हैं जो आने वाले थे। बहुत सारे लोग भी इस बात को स्वीकार करते थे कि योहन का बपतिस्मा ईश्वर की ओर से था। सन्त योहन का सन्देश एकदम स्पष्ट था कि वह स्वयं मसीह नहीं थे, लेकिन मसीह के आगमन के लिए लोगों को तैयार करने आए थे। इसलिए वह यरदन नदी में पश्चाताप का बपतिस्मा देते थे। लेकिन बहुत से लोगों ने उनके सन्देश को गंभीरता से नहीं लिया और खुद को मुक्तिदाता के आगमन के लिए तैयार नहीं किया। क्या हम भी उन लोगों में से हैं जो यह जानते हुए भी कि मुक्तिदाता आने वाले हैं, खुद को पश्चताप के साथ तैयार नहीं करते?

📚 REFLECTION
Elijah was one of the most important prophets of Israel. He is even sometimes compared side by side with Moses. It was believed that before the arrival of the promised messiah, Elijah had to come before and prepare the people, so that they recognize and receive the saviour and thus escape the wrath of God. This is also mentioned in the first reading of today and also it was communicated to people from generation to generation. That’s why in the gospel today, the disciples ask Jesus about the same.
We know now that Jesus indicated that John the Baptist is Elijah. In fact many people believed that John the Baptist had come from God. His message was also clear, that he wanted people to prepare by repenting and as a sign of their repentance, they had to be baptized with the baptism of repentance in the river Jordan. But the people did not accept the message of repentance. Are we ready to repent and accept the Messiah in our lives?

नबी एलियाह ने पश्चाताप का उपदेश देते हुए लोगों से अपनी मूर्ति-पूजा छोड़ने को कहा। ऐसा करने पर उन्हें राजा अहाब और रानी ईज़ेबेल के गुस्से का सामना करना पड़ा। उन्होंने कार्मल पर्वत पर बाल देव के चार सौ पचास नबियों तथा अशेरा देव के चार सौ नबियों का सामना किया। वे नहीं चाहते थे कि दो अलग-अलग मतों के साथ इस्राएली लोग लंगड़ा कर चलें। उन्होंने उन्हें या तो प्रभु ईश्वर पर विश्वास करने या बाल देव पर विश्वास करने का निर्णय लेने के लिए मजबूर किया। नबी एलियाह के मनोभाव और और शक्ति ले कर आए संत योहन बपतिस्ता चाहते थे कि लोग अपने पापपूर्ण तरीकों से दूर जाएं और ईश्वर में अपने विश्वास को स्पष्ट करें। उन्होंने इस्राएल के सभी लोगों के सामने यह चुनौती रखी। जैसा कि हम क्रिसमस के महान पर्व की ओर बढ़ रहे हैं, प्रभु चाहते हैं कि हम पश्चाताप करें और उन पर विश्वास करें।

📚 REFLECTION
Elijah was a prophet who preached repentance asking people to give up their idol worship. Elijah had to face the fury of Ahab and the king and Jezebel the queen. He confronted four hundred and fifty prophets of Baal and the four hundred prophets of Asherah at Mount Carmel. He did not want the Israelites to go limping with two different options – worship of God or that of idols. He forced them to make a decision either to follow Yahweh or Baal. St. John the Baptist who came in the spirit and power of Elijah also wanted the people to move away from their sinful ways and make a clear choice for God. This was the challenge thrown by him before all the people of Israel. As we approach the great feast of Christmas the Lord wants us to repent and make a clear choice him.
