Dear brothers and sisters, today the Church remembers St. Andrew Dung-Lạc and his companions, martyrs who remained faithful to Christ even when faithfulness meant suffering and death. Today’s Gospel speaks about difficult times, wars, earthquakes and frightening events. Jesus does not hide the reality that His disciples may face suffering. But He also tells them not to be terrified. Christian faith does not promise a life without difficulties. Instead, it gives us the strength to face difficulties with hope. The martyrs teach us what this kind of faith looks like. They could have chosen safety, but they chose Christ. Most of us may never face the kind of persecution experienced by the martyrs, but every day we face smaller choices that test our faith. We must choose honesty when lying would be easier, forgiveness when anger feels natural, generosity when selfishness is attractive and truth when compromise seems convenient. These choices may look small, but they shape our character. Faithfulness is built through daily decisions. When we remain faithful in small things, God gives us strength to remain faithful in greater trials. Today, let us ask the intercession of the martyrs and pray for courage. May we never be ashamed of our faith or afraid to live according to the Gospel. Let our lives quietly witness that Christ is more valuable than comfort, success or even worldly security.

The temple of Jerusalem was the pride of the Jews. They believed that their Lord God dwelt in the temple, and as long as He made His dwelling among them, no harm could come to them. However, in the history of Israel, we see that the Jerusalem temple was destroyed multiple times. In today’s Gospel, Jesus prophesies the destruction of this very temple. The reason for this was that the people failed to recognize the presence of God in their midst in the form of Jesus. Our body, too, is a temple of the Holy Spirit. When we forget the sanctity of our body and deny the presence of the Holy Spirit within us, the destruction of our bodily temple becomes inevitable. Therefore, we must take care of the temple of our mind and spirit.

This week is the last week of the liturgical year and from coming Sunday we will enter into the new liturgical year from Advent. In this last week we will read and reflect about the passages related to the end times of days.

In today’s gospel we find Jesus in the Jerusalem temple. He was nearing to the end of his earthly life. That time some people were fascinated by the beauty and magnificence of the Jerusalem Temple. But Jesus told them that the day is coming soon when the Temple will be destroyed. For Jews the temple was the soul of their faith. It was the symbol of their prestige. Their thinking was that the temple will last long for years.

Lord Jesus knew that when the Jerusalem Temple will be destroyed then it will affect the life and faith of many and many may think that the end days have come; at that time many will come to lead the people astray. Knowing this Jesus told when this will happen do not be deceived because the deceiving and leading astray is the work of the devil this we read in Revelation 12:9. We need to be alert and aware in order to protect ourselves from the works of devil because like a roaring lion our adversary the devil prowls around, looking for someone to devour (1 Pet 5:8). Devil looks for an opportunity for how and when to make us his prey.

Till the Second Coming of Lord Jesus, to protect ourselves from devil’s works we have to wear the Armor of God, about which is told by St Paul in the letter to the Ephesians 6:10-18. Based on the teaching of St. Paul Come let’s fasten the belt of truth around our waist, and put on the breastplate of righteousness; put on the gospel of peace, take the shield of faith, take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God so that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. Amen!
