Ask, Seek, Knock

Fr. Francis Scaria

Smiley face Jesus assures us that we shall not be frustrated when we ask, seek and knock. It is when we do not know or we do not have that we have to ask. It is when we are looking for something or when we have lost something that we need to seek. It is when we need entry that we knock at the door.

Ultimately it is Jesus who can satisfy our needs and our craving. We ask graces and favours from God. The giver of all grace is given to us in Jesus. When we ask him, he does not us merely food, but the food of eternal life in the Eucharist which is the daily bread for the Christians. He gives us himself in his self-sacrificing and kenotic love for us.

Job says, “For I know that my Redeemer lives, and at last he will stand upon the earth; and after my skin has been thus destroyed, then from my flesh I shall see God, whom I shall see on my side, and my eyes shall behold, and not another.” (Job 19:25-27). Jesus himself says, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” (Mt 5:8).

It is the Lord who opens the heaven to the humanity. “The Lord will open to you his good treasury the heavens, to give the rain of your land in its season and to bless all the work of your hands…”Deut 28:12). Jesus opened for us the door of the mystery of God. He made God family. He is the door of the Mystery of God.
